    Lateral Bonus

    Coronado Police Department offers a competitive lateral hiring bonus to recognize the value of prior experience. New academy graduates are eligible for a $10,000 bonus, while lateral officers with a POST Basic Certificate qualify for a $20,000 bonus.

    POST Certificate Pay

    We reward professional development and career advancement through POST Certificate pay incentives. Officers receive an additional 5% salary increase for achieving an Intermediate POST Certificate, with another 5% increase for earning an Advanced POST Certificate.

    Shift Differential Pay

    Coronado PD provides shift differential pay to recognize the challenges of working non-traditional hours. Officers assigned to the overlap shift receive a 2.25% pay differential, while those working the night shift earn a 3.25% differential, ensuring fair compensation for critical coverage during evenings and overnight hours.

    Specialty Assignment Pay

    We value the unique skills required for specialized positions. Officers assigned as motor officers, detectives, task force officers, or field training officers receive 5% specialty pay in recognition of the advanced training, expertise, and responsibility these roles require.

    Uniform Allowance

    To ensure our officers are always equipped with professional attire, Coronado PD provides an annual uniform allowance of $1,250. This benefit covers the cost of purchasing and maintaining uniforms, gear, and necessary equipment.

    Tuition Reimbursement

Officers receive up to 160 hours of floating holiday leave annually, in addition to vacation accrual of up to 232 hours per year depending on tenure, with prior outside agency service recognized toward accrual eligibility.

    As a Coronado Police Officer, you are part of the CalPERS retirement system, one of the most respected public retirement programs in the nation. This defined-benefit plan provides long-term security and peace of mind. Classic CalPERS members maintain 3.0% at 50.
